This platter
takes over 1 year to make (as do many of the Ancient Kauri
pieces). This lengthy period is mainly due to an
extensive drying process in low heat kilns to evaporate
moisture from the swamp timber.
This design
for this platter is truly by nature as small cracks can
appear in the wood as it dries. Rather than disregard
or "fix" the piece, the one or two cracks are accentuated
with others that are carved into the edge of the platter to
give it "balance".
This piece is
large and makes a great feature for a table or wall.
